The Ford Focus has climbed to the top of the compact car heap globally and will try to maintain that position with major updates for the 2015 model year.

The changes stop short of a total revamp, but include a new engine, suspension improvements, better steering, an upgraded interior and more standard equipment.

Americans will get a first look at the freshened Focus next week at the New York auto show. The hatchback and wagon variants were shown last month at the Geneva, Switzerland, auto show.
