Speaking to a group of reporters in New Delhi, India, General Motors CEO Mary Barra shared that the company has plans on launching forty new vehicles across international markets in the coming years, according to a Reuters report. Whether that means all-new or ranging from all-new to slightly refreshed is another story, as does the time-frame.

Interestingly, the report notes how the launches exclude North America, China, and Europe — some of GM’s largest markets. Barra was quoted saying General Motors “sees a lot of opportunities in India from a market perspective.” From a sales standpoint, it seems the only place the automaker can go is upward for the region. As far as market potential goes, India is one of the most populated countries in the world, with over 1.2 billion people residing in its borders. In that respect, it could be the next China.
