General Motors is spending more than $38 million to expand its Lansing Grand River assembly plant and hire at least 150 people, city officials said Thursday.

The Detroit automaker was tightlipped about its plans. Local spokeswoman Erin Davis said only that GM is "developing a business case for a potential future investment ... (that) would fund facility improvements aimed at strengthening the plant's manufacturing capability."

But Bob Trezise, president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership, said GM is considering a 400,000-square-foot addition to the Lansing Grand River plant that makes the Cadillac ATS compact luxury car, the Cadillac CTS midsize sedan, coupe and wagon, and in the fall of 2015, the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
