Ford Motor Co.'s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne has been named ASSEMBLY Magazine's Plant of the Year.

The facility, which produces the Ford Focus, Focus ST and Focus Electric, and is ramping up production of the C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, is the first auto plant — and Michigan plant of any kind — to receive the award.

The Dearborn automaker in 2010 reopened Michigan Assembly following $550 million in investments that allows Ford the flexibility of matching production of the five cars to current demand. The plant currently employs 5,170 workers, Ford said.
