While Jeeps such as the late 2000s WK Grand Cherokee are no strangers to the drag strip, even outside the US, to meet a 90s XJ Jeep Cherokee at the drag is a rare occurrence. Nevertheless, the example we are here to talk about is not your average Jeep since this is the fastest Cherokee in the world.

To get an idea of just how extreme this Jeep is, we’ll tell you this much: when manhandled correctly and in the right conditions, the Cherokee can pull an 8.44s quarter mile at 164 MPH (264 km/h). For the record, that’s the kind of performance that would leave a LaFerrari about 1.5s behind.

Interestingly enough, this is a street-legal machine. Under the hood, we have a 505 cubic inch Chrysler Mega Block V8, which is aided by not one, but two stages of nitrous. In fact, the owner likes to do what we call three-dimensional driving. He hits the first nitrous shot and, once the front wheels are back on the ground, he switches to the second.
