Cadillac took the wraps off its 2016 ATS-V coupe and sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Tuesday night, models that are designed to compete head-on with the high-performance variants of other luxury brands.

Scheduled to go on sale next spring, the ATS-Vs will be powered by a twin-turbo version of Cadillac's 3.6-liter V-6, designed to generate power faster and sustain it longer. They are the latest salvo in Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen's campaign to broaden the product portfolio and put Cadillac on the shopping lists of luxury car shoppers who have been satisfied with European options in the past.

First introduced in 2004, Cadillac's V-Series has elevated the brand's performance car credentials.
